We had a very adventurous day today. We started the day with a 4 hour jeep tour. Cowboy Bill took 6 passengers to travel on the old stage coach and railroad up in the mountains. Bryan got to ride shot gun, I sat behind the driver, and there was a family of 4 sitting in a raised bench behind me in the back of the jeep. We climbed to 11,000 feet on the winding dirt/sandstone/rocky/ road. The road was basically made of crushed granite... very slippery to walk on. Parts of the road seemed to be complete rocks, which made it very bumpy.. the perfect jeep ride! The driver gave us a ton of history about the mining times, when the stage coach and railroad would pass through. After we stopped to see an amazing view of Pikes Peak, we headed back down the mountain.
We got back to the RV and went to the Cog Railway Station, which is a cog train that goes to the top of Pikes Peak. The RV definitely wouldn't have made the drive up there. This train traveled at a 28% grade! (Cars only do about 7-9%, which means this was VERY steep). It took about an hour, then we stayed on the top for half an hour, and took the train back down. There were some awesome views from the top of Pikes Peak, which is 14,110 feet high.
By the time we got back to our RV it was dinner time, so we headed back to the KOA we were at last night to make stuffed porkchops. My mouth is watering, waiting for them to finish cooking! We had a ton of fun today, but our time in CO has come to an end. Tomorrow we will be making an 8 hr trip to Kansas City. Not sure if we'll have anything to blog about. Saturday brings us to Missouri, where we're doing a cave tour, and then Sunday we will be home =( I won't think about that yet... we are having too much fun!
